Book Show with Stefan Frank: Laughing through Tears: Photography in the Age of “Too Late” Capitalism
I’m very happy to share that I’ve been invited to The Photobook Show for Episode 27, taking place on Thursday, June 18, 2026, at 1pm (ET) organized by StrudelMediaLive.
In this episode, I’ll be speaking about my book Râsu’-plânsu’ (“laughing through tears”), a project developed from my time living and working in Bucharest, Romania. Over several years, I photographed small “interventions” made by people living in communist-era housing blocks-quiet, inventive gestures that respond to uniform and decaying urban space, and act as subtle forms of resistance and personal expression.
We will also talk about my broader project Interventions, which approaches the photobook as a space for dialogue, participation, and reflection, rather than a closed object.
The episode will open with a short introduction to Anna Kornbluh’s Immediacy, or The Style of Too Late Capitalism, which helps frame a discussion about scale, urgency, and contemporary photobook practice.
The event is free, but registration is required (limited places available).
I look forward to joining the conversation.
