Gabriela Pienias is a graduate of the Faculty of Fine Arts in Cieszyn, currently a Ph.D. Student of the Institute of Arts. She studied painting at University of Lisbon. Organizer of the Cieszyn’s Venice Biennale and Meetings of Art in Cieszyn’s Venice. The artists creates large-format painting installations and realistic pictures on the social subjects, whose target place of presentation is city’s public space. The openings of her works also take place there. She introduces painting into the urban tissue as an alien, unexpected element which constitutes both the opposition to omnipresent advertisements, and the starting point to the creation of a place for meetings and building dialogue with other people. Through artistic interventions and actions which she has carried out so far in Poland and Portugal, she tames both the art, and the city. Revealing some social problems, she encourages the debate on the real problems of the modern world and to reflect on the condition of contemporary art.
