Bogusław Bachorczyk is a Polish painter, sculptor, draftsman, multimedia artist, exhibition curator, and author of artists’ books. He is Professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków, where he leads the Third Interdisciplinary Studio at the Faculty of Painting. His work has been presented in more than fifty solo and group exhibitions at leading museums and galleries throughout Poland, including the National Museum in Kraków, Bunkier Sztuki, the Museum of Photography in Kraków, and the Centre of Polish Sculpture in Orońsko. He has received numerous awards and scholarships, including the Józef Czapski Scholarship, the Creative Scholarship of the City of Kraków, and the Gloria Artis Medal for Merit to Culture.
Working across painting, sculpture, photography, installation, and performance, Bachorczyk combines traditional craftsmanship with contemporary media and frequently collaborates with actors, dancers, poets, and other artists. Since 2018, he has developed Our Derek Jarman Garden, an ongoing, non-institutional artistic initiative located at Czysta 15 Street in Kraków. Conceived as an evolving space for artistic experimentation, exhibitions, meetings, and interdisciplinary collaborations, the project draws inspiration from Derek Jarman’s garden at Dungeness while responding to its own local social, cultural, and urban context. Bachorczyk’s work explores history, memory, identity, masculinity, and the personal experience of time, creating poetic narratives that connect private memory with broader historical and cultural experience.
