Anne Leonte (b. 2005, Bucharest, Romania) is a visual artist working with photography, moving image, installation and experimental sound. Her practice moves between documentary and abstract approaches, exploring political themes, memory, time, archives and performance. Through her work, she investigates how images, gestures and traces of human presence shape our understanding of places and collective experience. She is currently studying at the National University of Arts in Bucharest (UNArte).
My intervention in Râsu'-plânsu' was an attempt to create a collaborative archive of the city. I approached the book as a kind of journal, responding to its images through fragments and traces that resonated with my own experience of Bucharest. I incorporated some of my own photographs and intervened in the book through drawing. Despite differences in culture, we often leave behind similar traces and find similar ways of inhabiting and transforming our surroundings. I think Râsu'-plânsu' explores these connections in a really beautiful way.
