The Museum of Modern Art Teaching with Art: Using Inquiry, Activities, and Themes Specialization
Today, I completed The Museum of Modern Art Teaching with Art: Using Inquiry, Activities, and Themes Specialization on Coursera focused on teaching with art. The program explored how modern and contemporary art can be used as a tool for learning across different subjects, using inquiry-based methods, activities, and thematic approaches.
The specialization included three courses:
Art & Inquiry: Museum Teaching Strategies for Your Classroom
Art & Activity: Interactive Strategies for Engaging with Art
Art & Ideas: Teaching with Themes
Overall, the courses emphasized practical strategies that can be applied in educational settings. The idea is not just to present art, but to use it as a starting point for discussion, observation, and critical thinking.
I found the Art & Activity course particularly useful, especially its focus on interactive approaches that encourage active participation. This was interesting to me because I see it as useful knowledge for a project I will be starting soon, where I hope to run workshops with students. I was also interested in the “transforming everyday objects” section from Art & Ideas, as it connects with my own interest in photographing everyday objects.
I highly recommend all of those three courses.
